It looks like you are suffering from Occipital Neuralgia headache which generally start at the base of the head & goes to the scalp. It causes intense, sharp pain. You are recommended to get examined & get investigations like Blood tests, CT, MRI done.
The cause can be cervical osteoarthritis, neck tensions, cervical disc disease, sensitivity to light, pain on one or both sides of the head. Massage, application of heat to the neck, medications like naproxen or Ibuprofen are effective. Occipital Neuralgia is not life-threatening. It can be made better by taking the medications & resting. Depending upon the severity of the discomfort & symptoms your treating doctor can prescribe you with anti-depressants, anti-seizure drugs or relaxants. You may need surgery (Stimulation of the Occipital nerve or Microvascular decompression) though it is rare.
