What Causes Severe Headaches Along With Chest Pain And Sweating?

Hello. My husband has not been feeling well for a few days now. He said his body is achey, head ache, cold (even with 5 blankets on). I took his temp and it was 95.5 but he is sweating and feels cool. Today he started complaining about chest pains also. He is the type that almost never gets sick , so when he does I get worried.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Based on your query, I would like to rule out infectious causes and heart / lung pathology.

- I would initially check his vitals (a temperature of 95.5F is low- could be due to the sweating, a flase reading). His blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, oral or rectal temperatures need to be monitored.
- Next I would look for signs that suggest any localisation of infection (for, instance ,headaches may indicate meningitis - infection of the membranes that surround the brain).
- I would the do a detailed clinical examination of all his organ systems and do some blood tests (complete blood count,ESR,CRP, blood cultures, kidney &liver functions tests) and urine routine.
- An ultrasound abdomen, electrocardiogram ,echocardiogram, chest X-ray, CT BRAIN will be included in the workup.

Based on this, I would start him on relevant and supportive therapy. I suggest you take him to the ER. Sudden onset with unusually sever headaches with chills indicate a meningeal or brain infection. this needs prompt treatment.
Any chest pain should be immediately evaluated for heart related patholgy, irrespective of a clean medical history.

Please visit the ER right away.

Hope he gets better. Wish you both good health.
