What Causes Severe Headache, High BP And Bleeding Nose?

My sister is 59 and in good health. For the past week she has had increasingly stronger headaches, high blood pressure and nose bleeds. She went into the ER today and the doctor basically said she is suffering from stress! Seems a little under diagnosed. Any ideas? Oh, they did perform a ICAT scan with stated neg results.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I have gone through the medical history of your sister and understood your concern.

1. Stress is causing high blood pressure(no).
If she has suffered from high BP before and currently taking anti-hypertension meds, stress is causing her bp to spike.

2. Tremor in her hands is also related to stress.

3. However, thyroid disorders, menopausal hormonal changes are also to consider. They will also cause her bp to spike and tremor or other stress mimicking symptoms.

Further tests are recommended to rule them out:
- thyroid hormones
- monitoring if bp
- female hormone levels
- lipid profile panel

4. Headaches are due to spikes in BP and high levels of stress.

It is important to get her calmed down. Advise to take chamomile ir valerianna tea/supplement.

Psychotherapy can also help.
High BP levels should be correctly treated too but careful with the dose to prevent hypotension onset.

Hope this helps.
