What Causes Severe Dizziness?

I have had severe dizziness for 3 weeks. I have tried Dramamine, home eply maneuver, I am very nauseated when I try to move around. In the past when the eply maneuver was done by a therapist it stopped it. but when I have done the same manuveer it does not cause the dizziness to be worse on either side. I checked my blood pressure and it is 140/64 but my heart rate is 48 could this be the cause of my dizziness.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Severe dizziness is due to vertiginous syndrome (middle ear syndrome).
Check your blood pressure (bp), record the results for future reference.
Persistent increased bp can also cause severe dizziness although heart rate is within normal range.

Before trying any medication, I highly recommend to consult further with ENT specialist to rule out inner ear issues first.

A complete cardiac check up is highly recommended to evaluate the work of your heart: ECG, echocardiogram of heart and neck blood vessels.

Spondyloarthrosis of the neck should be ruled out through X-ray of spinal cord (neck area).

Depending on the results we can discuss for the best treatment strategy. Avoid quick moving of head, meanwhile, and continue taking Damamine. Betahistin is the drug of choice, however, let's wait for test reports first.

Wish fast recovery.
