Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have hand cramps that are getting worse and more frequent everyday. At night time I get severe cramps in my legs and feet that wake me up. I don t exercise much right now because I have a bad knee that is getting replaced in June. So I know it s not related to exercising . I drink 9 bottles of 16.9 oz of water almost every day.
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
There are several causes of legs cramping and in most cases this is a sign of lack of some nutritiens such as magnesium or calcium so these supplements may be beneficial. You can have magnesium in carbonated drinks, If this is related to physical activity then this may be sign of arterial insufficiency and then you need to do Doppler ultrasound to verify blood flow in legs. If this is impaired, then ballon dilatation or surgery may be appropriate option. Third, this may be sign of vein thrombosis in legs and also Doppler would show if this is present. This is treated with blood thinners and elastic stockings. In every case, if symptos will persist or progress, you should do tests that I have recommended so that treatment can be started as soon as possible. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
