What Causes Severe Cramps & Bleeding Post An Abortion?

Hi, I had an abortion in November 19 2010. I went through the severe cramps and bleeding for about a week (during Thanksgiving week) after the medical procedure, then it stop. Around mid-December I start spotting on and off (had to keep a panty liner on), then my period came back regular flow on December 31 and lasted for 4-6 days. I had PROTECTED sex on the 14th of January. I start experiencing cramps on the 22nd and noticed spotting on the 24th (had cramps before I found out that I at I was pregnant on October 31st). I am freaking out right now, because I've been reading and researching about implantation & ovulation spotting. I DONT WANT TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN. I took a pregnancy test on the 23rd and the 25th. Both came out negative. I don't know what's going on at this point!

Hallow Dear,

I must complement you for providing such a detailed history.

At the outset, let me inform you that the pregnancy test you performed was too early. Pregnancy tests on urine are usually positive about a week after missing a period; done earlier may report false negative tests. At this stage, Beta hCG test are more informative.

The cramps with spotting you had does raise a suspicion of ectopic pregnancy - a condition in which the baby is implanted outside the uterine cavity and has a risk of rupture with alarming bleeding requiring emergency surgical intervention with many units of blood transfusion. Please report to Gynaecologist for appropriate diagnosis.

I hope this would guide you for required steps.

hi healthcare magic user, it looks like it is implantation bleeding you could be pregnant.
home test for pregnancy will come positive only when it is 2-3days of missed period.
at this phase it is difficult to get positive urine pregnancy test inspite of pregnancy.
for confirmation please get a blood test called serum BHCG.
