What Causes Severe Cough And Congestion While On Claritin For Food Allergy?

Hi. My 6yo boy is allergic to many things. I.e. Trees, nuts, corn, bushes etc. we have been giving him OTC Claritin chewable a in the am. Benadryl prn but haven t had to. Started it 5 days ago. Now he has been coughing & cogested. Went to urgent care a few weeks back for same problem & guafenesin & promethazine syrups prescribed for the coughing & congestion. He didn t get a dose of Claritin today because I was afraid the coughing could be a side effect exacerbated from Claritin. I gave Benadryl once today.I m concerned about his coughing & breathing. They keep telling us it s a virus.They did do a CXR & it revealed something viral in the lower lobes. What should I do?

A CXR do not reveals any viral infection but can only show opacities or pathology in the lungs that can be correlated to many diseases. A repeated chest congestion and cough might be due to eight allergic reactions to some antigen or either chest infection. short term self resolving or resolvement with single dose antiallergic are usually due to allergic reactions. Infections are mostly long standing and associated with other features like fever, sputum in cough, weight loss and lethargy like symptoms. for further information you can ask me on my profile tab.
