What Causes Severe Cough And Breathlessness While Treated For Pneumonia?
I had pneumonia for two weeks...just got over that, was back to work 2 days and started coughing, got bronchitis, practically coughed up my lungs for two weeks and got so sore it became painful to move, cough, breathe, finally they prescribed me cough syrup that helped some and another antibiotic,within a few days later, the pain was so great, It was a 9 or 10 on a scale of 1-10, saw a doc and he thought it was pleurisy. Not much you can do for that he said...so I am just suffering...do you have any ideas of what to do for pleurisy...I can hardly move without pain.

1. Since there is history of pneumonia,bronchitis and now shortness of breath with pleural pain it is wise to see a Medicine Specialist since pain is not relieved in 4-5 days, he may ask for X-ray chest to exclude:
- Pleural effusion [if present then full course of anti-tuberculous treatment is advised]
- Lobar pneumonia: where broad spectrum antibiotics with oxygen by nasal mask,intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration and bed rest till recovery is advised.
2. In between [till appointment is not taken] :
. bed rest
. Cap. Amoxycillin twice daily
. Tab. Chymoral forte [ analgesic + antiinflammatory]: thrice daily
. Tab. wysolone 5 mg: [short course steroid]: thrice daily
. Syrup phenesedyl [anti tussive]: 1 tablespoon thrice daily
