Hello, I live an active lifestyle with a considerably healthy diet but recently I have taken up yet another activity to attempt to tone my torso area which is Hula-Hooping. Like with anything else I started slowly over a few months and now have 10 minutes a night with the Hula-Hoop workout. Recently after only a few minutes I have been suffering central chest pains causing me to stop. The pains do go after a few minutes of stopping but as soon as I start again the pain returns. I live abroad in a country where I do not speak the language comfortably to approach a doctor here, therefore your guidance would be appreciated. I have no history of Asthma or any other medical condition I feel you should be aware of and my family's medical history is clear too. thank you
Hi,thanks for your question. My opinion is that you should not worry about this chest pain since from the characteristics of pain that you describe (lessens with decreased movement, exacerbated by physical activity)and appearing after increasing your physical activity correlate with costochondritis. It would help me to confirm this diagnosis if there is local tenderness to palpation of the chest wall. If i was your treating doctor i would prescribe Nonsteroidal antiinflamator such as Ibuprofen for pain control.Another thing that can help releaving the pain is local heat, gentle stretching of the pectoralis muscle 2-3 times a day. Hope I have answered your question Wish you good health
