What causes severe abdominal spasms during the MRI procedure?

I had an MRI last week and 2 minutes in my stomach starts having muscle spasms to the beat of the machine. It ended up causing me to finally panic and crawl out but my shoulder needs imaged so I have to go back. I have no metal in me at all so why would my stomach twitch and spasm like that after only 2 minutes in the machine? Is there another way to have a shoulder imaged if X-rays don t work and I can t sit in the MRI again?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern and following is/are the possibilities:

1. As MRI is a very safe procedure and also you have clarified that there is/was no metal inside your body thus it could be possible that since MRI machine uses both strong/static magnetic field and is also a source of microwave energy,it could be that the scanner was set too high for the thickness of the area to be scanned.

2. Other investigations which one can ask in the absence of these two is/are: ultrasound/CT guided Arthrogram.
