What Causes Severe COPD?

Hi. My husband has just been diagnosed with severe COPD. He is only 45 and does not smoke. He is overweight and has had a lap band. He has had problems the last few years with bronchitis. My question: He was a Marine at subic Baby when the volcano erupted and was there for several weeks closing that base down. Could exposure back in his 20s to this environmental risk cause these health problems now?

Hello,

Yes, continuous exposure to volcano fumes may cause COPD.

COPD generally develops due to repeated bronchitis.

Kindly consult with a pulmonologist. Do deep breathing exercises.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
