What Causes Scoliosis?

I am 62 yrs old. I was in a serious auto accident 3 years ago, and x-rays showed scoliosis . My question is; Back exrays of the area from 2001 and again in 2006 showed a perfectly straight spine. My current neoro dr tells me it is never caused by an accident, and I have had it all along. Is this possible? What is the age of a person showing no signs of scoliosis until an accident when a 60-yr-old was then diagnosed?

Hi,

Scoliosis is a spinal deformation caused by bed position over years. Most probably it is caused in teenager years. If the scoliosis grade is low it doesn't cause any problems and cannot be diagnosed until occasionally. So there accident is an occasional event which made you to do an x-ray that detected scoliosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
