What Causes Sclera Swelling Along With Eye Irritation?

Hi doctor, I had an irritation in my left eye and I scratched it. Now the sclera has swollen up. Though I don t have any pain but due to the swelling I am not able to shut my eye. I don t have anti biotic eye drop, but have taken an Allegra tablet. Do you suggest any other remedy or suggestion? Should I do cold fermentation? Pls help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Irritation of sclera with swelling could be caused most commonly due to dust allergy. It would be advisable to wash the eyes thoroughly by using cold water and then apply fomentation, if necessary. Since you have taken Tablet. Allegra, that should help you to overcome allergy. You can repeat the dose again after 12 hours based on the response.
Along with it, you need to use antiinflammatory eye drops containing Flurbiprofen thrice a day, until the lesion subside completely.
Kindly protect your eyes from dust during this period by wearing protection glasses.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
