I'm 49 and I've noticed my cycle may be changing. However, this current monthly cycle hardly any blood comes onto the pad but when I wipe myself the tissue is soiled with blood. Why is it not coming out? This has been for several days already, possibly a week.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. You are in peri menopausal phase of life. This period precedes menopause,so stoppage of menstrual cycle occurs with gradual changes in menstrual habit. * Your present symptoms of scanty / long standing spotting are due to hormonal pre menopausal changes in body.It may follow profuse bleeding/ absence of menses in future. * It needs maintenance of local hygiene / psychological balance ( Meditation, yoga )/ routine mild exercise( walking ) * Consult your doctor if symptoms become bothersome. Medications are available for severe complaints. Thanks.
