Dear doctor, I have been suffering with scalp itching since Dec 2011 usually around the vertex zone. Initially there was dandruff, pimples and scabs, but now also includes sebum plugs and an oily scalp. I began losing hair from July 2012 onwards. I ve received mixed diagnoses from different doctors. One doctor believed I had typical male pattern baldness (MPB) despite the hair loss happening after the itching. The only relief I ve had came from an oral antihistamine, topical steroid and topical fusidic acid combo where I was left itch-free for 6 weeks. I ve read online that dermatitis precedes MPB in some people. Is this true from your experience? Do you have any thoughts regarding what this is? The primary care physician diagnoses have been very inconsistent because they re always paying attention to different parts of my presenting complaint. Thank you.
There may be scalp prurigo with seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp.
Consult the dermatologist for the perfect diagnosis and proper treatment.
I would recommend you to take antihistaminics, oral steroid in tapering dose, antibiotic and antifungal tablets under supervision of doctor. Apply mild steroid lotion on the scalp.
Cleanse the scalp with ketoconazole containing shampoo.
Hope this helps.
