Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Sometimes when I eat, my stomach will begin rumbling within 15-20 minutes. It usually isn t painful, just noisy and makes me feel nauseated. I cannot always pinpoint a certain type of food. I noticed once it begins to rumble, I can drink a glass of wine or a shot of alcohol and it will go away or subside. Can you tell me what is causing this and why? Is this something I should see a doctor about.
hello welcome to hcm well in medical terms this rumbling sound is named as BORBORYGMI..these sounds are caused by the peristaltic movements and muscular contractions of the stomach and intestines..occasional rumbling sounds are normal and occurs in everyone but frequent and loud sounds may indicated a underlying problem in the gastrointestinal tract and there are many possible causes of excessive and frequent sounds, common causes are--
(1) irritable bowel syndrome (2) celiac disease (3) crohn's disease (4) ulcerative colitis (5) gastroenteritis (6) intestinal obstruction (7) allergy to certain specific foods such as lactose intolerance (8) paralytic ileus (9) decreased potassium levels in the blood i.e hypokalemia (10) hiatus hernia
along with these tests doctor will also perform a physical examination to make a precise diagnosis and will prescribe you the most appropriate treatment to cure the underlying cause of your disorder
take care hcm
