Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Rise In BP Levels While Suffering From Persistent Headache?
I am a 57 year old woman. I have had a headache for a few weeks now. I thought it was because of the back and neck problems/pain I presently have. I have a cervical fusion in my neck C5-C7, and C7-T1 is buldging. I am also buldging from S1-L1 with degenerative disk disease and spondalytis in my entire spine. I also have bone loss where the sacrum meets my hip bone. So I have a significant amount of pain. Yesterday when I came home from work my BP was 178/110. It stayed that way for several hours. I am at work and I just took my BP (I have a monitor) and it was 174/103. I cannot take anything for pain because I am allergic to codiene and opiates, and NSAIDs like ibuprofen, naproxen, etc make my BP go up. I have been taking Excedrin because it didn't seem to bother my BP as badly. I keep thinking that my pain is causing the rise in my BP. Now I'm thinking maybe not. What is your suggestion. I am afraid to go to the ER because I do not want them to admit me and fill me with pharmaceuticals. I am a naturalist.
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, over all history and symptoms given here are nothing to worry, for the degenerative disk disease it has to be treated accordingly and for blood pressure if this is hypertension and you are on antihypertensive medicine and it is under control then no need to read the blood pressure on and often but in case of doubt it is better to consult the physician and let it read there because if you are reading it on your own then chances of error is very likely, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day.
