What Causes Ringworm On The Eyelid Of An 86-year-old?

Doctor, I am an 86 year old Asian and I have been bothered by a kind of ringworm on my eyelid, my ear,... I have been sent to a dermatologist by my primary care doctor; he did only remove the one on my eyelid but not other scabies on my head and face. How would you suggest me to treat this itchy condition, if possible with OTC medicine, i.e. with some kind of lotion or cream that would freeze the skin on the spot in some days and rid of those itchy scabs ? With appreciation, yours.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,

Ringworms can be treated with a local antifungal cream such as miconazole or clotrimazole applied twice a day on the area for 1-2 weeks.
Because the lesion is on the eyelid, you will have to be very cautious not to use excessive cream and cause it to go in the eye (apply a thin layer and try to avoid touching the area you applied the cream and also try to avoid touching the eye.

If you are not better with this treatment in a week, you will need to talk again with your doctor to make sure the diagnosis is accurate.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
