What causes ringing sound and itching in the ears post a Myringotomy?

I have had the same tube in my ear for ten years and my ear feels stuffy, rings itches and it does not appear the tube is doing its job? How long do you leave a tube in an adults ear? I have had my eardrum rebuilt with and without a tube. I had a hole in my eardrum for 9 years then it grew shut and a new one was inserted. I am now 60 and had my first tube at age 24

Hello,

There is no exact time for tubes to be left in. Eventually, they usually work their way out on their own. If not they can stay in place indefinitely. If you are having symptoms you need to see your ENT doctor for an evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Kathy Robinson, General & Family Physician
