What Causes Ring Worm On Buttocks In Children?

A 6 year girl has ring worm on her bottom, the school is not aware because they don t go to the toilet with the students. Her parents have been told by people that have noticed, the parents are both blind and can not see the out breaks, but they say they feel for any circular rises in the skin and apply an ointment 2 times daily, I don t this is truly being done, should they make the school aware that the child has ringworm on her bottom and other children that use the same toilet can possibly get infected?

Hi,

Cause of ringworm in a child may be due to trapped moisture on the skin. Hygiene may also play a role in ringworm infection. I would advise you to apply any antifungal ointment like miconazole (to be applied for a long period, up to a month) to get rid of ringworm infection. Also, you must get diabetes ruled out as fungal infections are seen more often in diabetics. In addition to the above, the area should be kept dry all the time with frequent change of undergarments.
