What Causes Ridges And Split In Nails?

I am a healthy 74 year old woman with ugly fingernails that have ridges and split downward, then bread or split in half. This has been going on for years. I have seen a nail specialist who says I have dry nails and offered me an RX that cost almost $300.00. I do not have any diseases other than osteoporosis. Any ideas.

Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history you are having vitamin B12 deficiency.
My treatment advice is -
1. Maintain good hygiene and trim nails regularly.
2. Take good nutritious diet full of green leafy vegetables and milk.
3. Take an iron supplement and vitamin B12 supplement once daily for 3 months. If problem persists then consult a dermatologist.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Take care.
