What Causes Rib Pain Along With Cough And Tightness In The Chest?

I am having right side rib pain associated with a cough and chest tightness. I just got back from the MD and they took a chest X-ray and did an EKG due to my family history as I was also having some mild chest discomfort. My supervisor suggested I take 3 81mg asa and after I did, I felt better. The MD said it must me just a virus. Any ideas? I am 53, Female, usually healthy

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

The symptoms you have mentioned mostly give me two diadnosis and amongst the common one is
1. cardiac isuue as you are having chest tightness and pain it may be radiating to the right side and you got relieved after taking aspirin.

2. It might be due to an infection also as your doctor did EKG and chest xray also and ruled out cardiac cause it seems. Costochondritis for a female at this age is also common .

If you were my patient if the pain subsides with aspirin it is ok I will repeat an ekg and do 2d echo also to rule out cardiac problems if everything come out normal then no need to worry much but if you have constant pain frequently then I will suggest you to go for a PET scan to know the exact cause.
