What Causes Redness, Swelling And Pin In The Shin Area?
2 days ago I noticed pain on my lower shin, I thought I bumped it because it felt like a bruise.Today it has turned into a red, swollen area about 3 inches long and 1 1/2 wide.Feels like a bruise still with tingling in my foot below it.What could this be?
It occurs commonly due to medial tibial stress, or can also occur due to excessive physical exercise or increased activity that overworks the tendons, muscles & bone tissues.
Do not get overweight, avoid overdoing your exercises, wear proper shoes which have soles that can absorb friction & shock. Take calcium tablets as a supplement. For relieve you can apply pain relieving ointments, balms & sprays. Medications like NSAIDs, Naproxen are effective. Visit ER, get X-Ray done to rule out any hair crack or fracture that may require medical attention.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
