What Causes Redness, Itching And Warmth After A PPD Test?

Hi I got my ppd test done on friday and this morning it was very red, itchy and warm to touch. It was 30mm when the NP measured but she said its negative since it was not raised enough am i positive?
sorry i did not know this was a paying site as i can not afford to pay today

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Redness, itching and warmth are common after PPD test and there is nothing to worry.
The test is read after 72 hours.
For the test to be positive, an induration or a lesion with a hard base measuring 30 mm or more is required to call the test as positive.
Mere redness of 30 mm or more does not imply that the test is positive.
PPD test is a screening test for tuberculosis however, it is not a diagnostic test.
Other confirmatory tests are required to confirm the diagnosis of tuberculosis.
