What Causes Redness Around Surgical Stitches?

Had large lipoma removed from upper back and neck area 2 weeks ago. Dr said I have disolveable stiches. No pain really, no fever. However the area around stiches and new scabs is red. No drainage. Is it normal to be so red??? Surgical cut was about 8 inches.

Slight redness around stiches is normal. Topical antibacterial creams like mupirocin may be used to prevent secondary infection. However if there is sudden increase in pain and redness at the suture sight you must consult your doctor immediately. Regards.
