What Causes Redness And Swelling In The Broken Foot?

Thank you for being here!!!Two weeks ago I dislocated my left foot, broke both my ankles on my left foot and damaged my heel. I have had 9 pins put in and a plate at heel area. I am trying to stay still and keep my foot elevated as much as possible. I go back to see the Dr September 11.2014. My concern is that though my toes are able to wiggle ,they turn reddish purple and swell just from moving across my living room floor even though the broken foot is not baring weight and is bent up and back .I am managing pain but my concern is that the blood is not flowing properly. Is this normal at this point? Wow 141 Dr on line .You are the best!!!

Hi,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that you got swelling of your toes. Some swelling remains after operated upon foot. It increases by keeping foot dependent. You are advised to keep foot elevated on pillow and active mobilization exercises of toe is advised. If you have sever pain and discoloration of toe than it can be blood not flowing well. you should be concerned. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care
