What Causes Redness And Soreness In Mouth Inspite Of Taking Antibiotics For Strep Throat?
My 9 year old saw the doctor yesterday and got antibiotics for strep throat. When he woke up today his whole mouth inside including his tongue is really red and sore .also his gums and the inside of his lips. Can this be a side effect of his meds its amoxicillin . He always gets that when he is sick ?
Well, redness and soreness after taking antibiotics can be due to side effect or the antibiotic. It can also be due to heavy dose of the medicine. Many a times antibiotic intake can cause fungal infection inside the mouth. So once get him checked by his Physician. For now feed him with bland and soft foods. It it doesn't hurt, make him do warm saline rinses. Avoid very hot and spicy foods. Feed more of fluids and water.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
