What causes redness and pain in the ears, sore throat and hot sweats after nose piercing?

Hi, I had a nose piercing done just over 6 weeks ago. 3 days ago I noticed it has became red and painful. I started to develop cold like symptoms with a sore throat, I am also getting hot sweats now. I need some advice on what to do as I’ve read up infected piercings can do this and get serious. Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Most probably your nose piercing got infected, a bacterial infection. But it is not related to your sore throat or hot sweats. both are different. Use a cold compress over the area.
Don't take out your nose ornament as it increases the infection.
only after the infection subsides, take the ornament out.
For your sore throat take an antibiotic
amoxycillin+clavulinic acid combination 625mg twice daily for 5 days
avoid cold foods, drinks and ac.
Use vaporizer and gargle with salt water daily for 3 times.
consult an ENT if the symptoms persist despite all this.

Take care

Hi, one night I went in my hot tub that wasn t properly working but didn t realize it at the time, so it wasn t as sanitary as it should have been. I have no idea if this is the reason for my symptoms, but my symptoms started the next morning after that. My symtoms have lasted for about two weeks now. The morning after the hot tub, I woke with a sore throat and had that all day. Then I went to bed the next night and woke the next morning with an even more severe sore throat and my eyes crusted shut due to mucusy discharge. I did take some natural health things and had quite a lot of green/yellow stuff come out through coughing and blowing my nose. This lasted for about a week: eyes crusted shut in the morning, yellow/green drainage, severe sore throat, and cough that keeps getting more intense. I did also have some mild body chills as well during this time and felt fatigued. The second week it still persisted, but the green/yellow discharge has lessened, the mucusy eyes have stopped, and the chills have stopped. The cough however has gotten worse, it is a dry cough that makes me cough so hard sometimes that I can feel pain in my back where my lungs would be. My sore throat has been constant thru all of this and has become so bad that I need to take pain medication before bed at night to be able to sleep. It seems to be worse too if I breathe with my mouth open for sometime. The newest development is that I have discovered red bumps on my uvula, and my right ear is beginning to hurt as well. What is this??? I m not sure it s strep because I have a cough with it. It does seem like some infection, but then why has the green/yellow discharge stopped?? I m also concerned because in my reading it seems like some of my symptoms are consistent with a herpes outbreak, which I ve never had before. I would love to know what this is, but mostly I would love for a doctor to tell me that it doesn t sound like herpes because that is very scary for me. THANK YOU

Hi, I have a 14-year-old son who has been suffering from a low-grade fever and sore throat for the past six days. On day one he vomited once and has had minimal appetite since. His sore throat has not decreased pain-wise, and he is fatigued and has a stuffed nose and ringing in his ears. He also has lost his voice for four days straight. Rather than improving symptom-wise, he is stabilized but I find that odd for a healthy male teen. He is losing weight due to not eating for six days straight.

I ve been having a sore throat for almost a week now. Other symptoms with the ore throat include: fever of 102.3 tops, coughing, pain in ears, and a runny nose.I ve had a sore throat many times before but none as painful as this one. I can barely eat and drink water not only because it hurts, but because it s like it doesn t fit throw my throat. I went to my college Nursery and i tested negative for strep and mono. She gave me an antibiotic and many other pills I have to take. She said it was one of the worst looking throats she s seen. After 3 days with the antibiotic and the pills, my throat feels a little better, but it still hurts a lot. The pills did get rid of my fever just yesterday, but my coughing increased a little, so I m beginning to take NyQuil. Do I just have a virus? Could this be Amigdalitis?
