What Causes Reddish Blood Discharge With Abdominal Cramps During Pregnancy?

Hello...I am 37 years old and am 14 weeks pregnant. I have had 2 past miscarriages and have a healthy 3 year old son. I started spotting blood around 5 weeks and my doctor found a cervical polyp that he said was the size of a pinky finger and was white. He took a biopsy which came back benign. At every dr. visit, he cauderizes (sp?) it and warns me that I will have black discharge for a little while. If I have spotting, it is usually brownish in color. Yesterday I had a more reddish blood discharge but it ended up ending quickly with off and on brown spotting. I ve had cramps in the lower abdominal region (where my c-section scar is) that almost feels like starting a period, and sometimes I will have a quick shooting pain in that area that goes away as soon as it hits. The baby is moving and I feel small kicks and flutters. Past ultrasounds show the baby is great, heart rate at around 150, and very active. This is just a worrisome thing this past weekend and I will be calling my dr tomorrow, but was seeking info now or hoping for reassurance. Thank you so much.

Hello dear,I understand your concern. In my opinion the spotting and bleeding might be due to cervical polyp. As the ultrasound is normal you need not worry. But as there is pain it might need examination by the doctor to rule out any cervical changes with the pain.It might be muscular pain too as the muscle cramps are quite common in pregnancy. But anyways examination might help in definite diagnosis. So dont worry. It will subside.Avoid physical strain and take rest.Adequate fluids upto 3 litres per day is advisable.
