What Causes Red Patch On Roof Of Mouth And Yellowish Palate?

My 6 yr old daughter has been complaining that her mouth itches for the past two days. When I checked her mouth this morning she had a red patch about the size of a thumbnail on the roof of her mouth near her throat, her palate was yellowish and she had a smaller less distinct red patch in the middle of the roof of her mouth. She hasn't had any fever, is eating well, and has had no other complaints. What could this be?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms itching on the roof of mouth along with a red patch and yellowish discolouration of palate is a sign of throat infection and it seems most probably due to bacterial infection.
At times it can be a viral throat infection with a secondary bacterial infection..
Nothing to worry, you can give her antibiotics like Augmentin or Azithromycin for 5 days.
For relief from inflammation and itching Ibuprofen can be given.
Make her do warm saline gargles.
Avoid spicy and hard food to prevent further irritation of throat.
Steam inhalations and using a humidifier can further relieve..

Hopefully she will start feeling better in 3 to 4 days..
