What Causes Red Blotches All Over The Body In Infants?

Hi, I have a 10 month old who has broken out in what appears to be red blotches all over. It started off on his back near his diaper so we thought it may be a fever rash. But now it has completely covered his back and there are a few on his neck, shoulders, stomach, behind his ear on his genitals, buttocks, and now on his forehead and around his mouth. He currently has a runny nose and cough and just got over having a fever that last off and on 2 days straight.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

A rash can occur along with a viral infection. It is called viral exanthem and is particularly common among children.

This means that the cough may be related to the cough/cold that he is having.
These normally resolve along with or soon after the infection.

If he is trying to rub at it, indicating that it is itching, then it may be an allergic reaction not exanthem. If this is the case then the use of appropriate allergy medication would be needed.

I hope this helps
