What Causes Red And Scaly Patches On The Skin?

my 8 year old son has a red, scaly ringworm type circle in his groin area. There is what appears to be possible heatrash above the reddness. three or four circles under the rash, and a few more in spots the his hip,he also says there is no pain or itching. The red spot looks like a blister type has popped and the scaly shin is trying to heal, this has only been 24 or so hours.I feel i need to put a cream lotin on it,just not sure.he is very allergic to poision ivy,and this doesnt seem to spread, that i can tell. i just dont know if he should see a doctor. if its contagious i need to take those precautions,as well. what to do? thNKS

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of red and scaly patches on the skin which seems to be that fact that you are being exposed and re-exposed to the allergen and this is the reason that the allergic reaction is persisting.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you take a proper course of antihistamine drug along with a short course of oral corticosteroids after proper prescription. Exfoliate your skin once in a week to remove the dead skin. Drink plenty of water. Wash face with a face wash containing salicylic acid twice a day and apply a cream containing azelaic acid.

If the condition doesn't get better in a month then consult dermatologist again for proper diagnosis and to rule out any underlying condition. The doctor may prescribe isotretinoin, steroid ointment or antibiotics course.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
