What Causes Recurring Throbbing Pain In The Right Of Adams Apple?

Hi, I'm a 31 year old male. I have a dull throbbing pain to the right of my "Adams apple". It is reccurring and sometimes it's on my left side. I'm a cigarette smoker and have been for almost 22 years. I know I should quit and will soon. Is this a sign of throat cancer?
