What Causes Recurring Tenderness On The Roof Of The Mouth?

Hi, my name is Debbie and I'm a 66 year old very healthy and active person. About every 6 months for the last several years, I get this "thing". I will get tenderness in the roof of my mouth as if it had been burned, sometimes my gums will be involved, my throat will hurt to swallow though it's not raw (more of a swelling feeling and an ache) an earache, sometimes around my eye will be tender and the top of my head will feel sore to the touch. This happens only on the left side of my head - always - and it will last for several days. No one has been able to suggest what it might be though no tests have been run. I feel it might be something viral though my husband's guess is that it's nerve related. Any ideas on this medical mystery and whom I should see for possible answers? Thank you!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that tenderness of roof of mouth along with earache and tenderness around the eye and top of head seems to be due to inflammation in sinuses leading to Sinusitis and as the sinuses drains through nostrils, therefore fluid/pus accumulation in sinuses can drain through nose..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x ray or MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Do warm compresses around nostrils..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
