What Causes Recurring Ribcage Pain When Diagnosed With Scoliosis?

I m 20 years old and I have been going through a lot of pain these past few weeks. In mid 2009 I was diagnosed with severe scoliosis. In January of 2010, I had back surgery where they straightened my spine with rods and screws, I believe it s called spinal fusion? Or was a quick procedure, I weighed around 98 pounds at the time, I only stayed in the hospital for 6 days because I had gotten sick. The recovery was pretty painful of course but I got through it, although these past 5 years I have been having pain on and off. The most recurring pain I have is going on on my mid right side where my rib meets my spine. Every time this comes up, whether I was bumped or it just came in it s own, it always feels as if my rib is loose and that rib sticks out more than the other. It hurts to do anything that extends the rib cage, whether it s taking deep breaths or coughing or laughing, about anything. This usually lasts about 4 or 5 days without treatment (because I never go to see a doctor about it). What s different now is the pain is worse this time. I had gotten pushed by random kids who were fighting and had accidentally hit me, but the push really wasn t too bad. It s just the pain is unbearable,it s keeping me up at night, messing with my breathing, I ve been putting a heating pad to my side for 2 days now and the pain has not gone down. I want to know what could possibly be wrong. I m going to a doctor soon, but I m just looking for more possible answers.

Hello,

This is mostly due to calcium and vitamin d 3 deficiency. So get done serum calcium and vitamin D 3 levels. If low then you will need supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
