What Causes Recurring Redness And Stinging Sensation In The Left Eye?

Hello doctors, I have had problems with my left eye (only left!) for about 4/5 months now. It starts to get red from the right side of the iris (the inner side), then usually gets completely red. This lasts for 2/3 days, then it gets better. Then the week after, it starts again. I have been to my GP three times now, and he keeps prescribing me anitbiotic eye creams/drops or tear-like eye drops. Obviously this is not working, but he says there is nothing else to do and it is probably a tear duct problem. When the eye is red, it feels a little stingy, and it also irritates when I touch my eyelid. I have had a bump removed from the same eyelid a little over a year ago. It was cut away from the inside. Do you have any idea what is causing this redness, and how to cure it? I would be very grateful!

I went through your history of red eyes, stingy sensation. Red eyes are always not due to infection, there are enumerable factors. In your case I can think if
1. Allergy. Frequent exposure to dust and allergens causes eyes to be red. Best remedy will be avoid the allergen and instill an antihistaminics with decongestant to reduce the redness and stinging.
2. excessive dryness too leads to redness and gritty sensation. Only treatment suggested would be artificial tears i.e CMC
3. Lateral part of the eye frequently have this complain of red eyes due to dryness as nose in the center divert the breeze to lateral part of eyes and save the medial part from drying.
I feel the problem you are facing is mainly due to dryness and addition of a artificial tear now an then with a goggle covering well enough lateral part of eyes will benefit you.
