What Causes Recurring Pain In The Ankles, Knees And Elbow?

My husband seems to have recurring severe pain that moves from ankle joints knee joints and recently his elbow. It comes and goes at different times. When it flares up the area gets swollen and warm. After a few days it s a little better, but at any time it can come back for no reason. We know he has arthritis in his ankle but knee ? And elbow?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
It really depends upon his age and what type of arthritis he has. From what you describe it sounds like he may have some sort of inflammatory arthritis like Rheumatoid arthritis. He really needs to see a doctor for blood tests and xrays to help make this diagnosis.
