What Causes Recurring Heart Pain At Night Despite Taking Prilosec?

My dad has heart disease with pain around his heart. He takes a number of heart medications that are effective. He is 85. His doctor has prescribed 40 mg of Prilosec 30 minutes before dinner at 5:00 p.m. He goes to bed around 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. with no heart discomfort. At approximately 3 a.m. he wakes for a bathroom break. When he returns to bed, the pain around his heart returns. Is it possible that the Prilosec medication has worn off and he may need an additional pill?

Dear friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Not likely
There could be other reasons – that need investigations.
In this setting, silent angina or heart failure should be considered / he may need more investigations… /
The treating doctor alone can suggest further based on his assessment of the situation.

Good luck
Take care
Wishing all well
God bless
