What Causes Recurring Headaches?

I have recurring headaches. I call them stinging headaches. I guess the general term is a splitting headache. Have had it for two days. Never had a headache before in my life until moved to Coastal South Carolina three years ago. I m 74. Nothing seems to help. Have been doing research and find some confusion about whether it may be triggered by vasodilator or vasoconstrictor. Have been drinking manu cups of coffe today but it hasn t helped. Just came across a website which oints to L-Tryptophan as a possible culprit. I eat all of the foods high in this aa, as I am a vegan, plant-based eater. I feel better when not lying down.

Greetings
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Mostly headache is caused by vasodilation when discussing about the mechanism. As far as your problem is concerned , it is very important to identify first the cause .

Headache has a long list of causes but most common is either Tension headache or headache due to sinus problems or sinusitis. Sinusitis i have identified in my clinics as one of the main cause of long term headache and patients usual have been taking just pain killers with just temporary relief. But sinusitis is an easily treatable condition.

First it is important to ask about whether you feel headache all over the head or just limited to a particular area. Then when you bend forward , for example, does the pain increase with feeling of heaviness around the head. Then it your doctor will have to examine the nose from inside in order to see if any signs of sinusitis are present.

Other types of headache can be cluster headache, migraine headache etc. All have particular set of symptoms to differentiate .

I hope the answer was helpful .In case you need any further assistance feel free to contact us in writing.

Regards.
