What causes recurring fever and increased ESR level?

Hi my son is 5 year 8 months old. He has a recurrent fever for the last 3 years. Recently we found that his ESR value is high during normal condition one 30 and another 28. During fever his ESR shots up to 60. What could be the cause this high ESR values.

Moderately elevated ESR occurs with inflammation but also with anemia, infection, pregnancy, and with aging. A very high ESR usually has an obvious cause, such as a severe infection, marked by an increase in globulins, polymyalgia rheumatica or temporal arteritis.
Men under 50 years old: less than 15 mm/hr
Men over 50 years old: less than 20 mm/hr
Women under 50 years old: less than 20 mm/hr
Women over 50 years old: less than 30 mm/hr
For children (Westergren method):
Newborn: 0 to 2 mm/hr
Newborn to puberty: 3 to 13 mm/hr
