What Causes Recurring Erythrasma Despite Taking Antibiotics Along With Topical Cream?

Hi I have been diagnosed with erythrasma and took antibiotics for four weeks in conjunction with a topical cream (which I took for about ten days). It more or less went while using both antibiotics and cream but as soon as the cream was used up the erythrasma came back within a week. I badly want rid of it. What are my options from here? Thanks Gareth

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the Erythrasma is a clinical condition affecting the skin via infection with Corynbacterium minutissimum from various reasons. Following are the predisposing factors for development of Erythrasma:
- Diabetes
- Old age
- Poor hygiene
- Obesity
- Lowered immune system
- Lack of hygiene care

The management depends upon the severity, and usually involve combination of approaches for fater results.
@ Local part cleansing with antiseptic liquid or soap
@ Local application of fusidic acid, clindamycin, erythromycin or miconazole
@ Systemic antibiotics as Erythromycin
@ Red light therapy

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
