What Causes Recurring Blighted Ovum During Early Pregnancy?

I had a blighted ovum miscarriage last January. Now I'm 8 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Light bleeding started yesterday and usg reveals a blighted ovum again. Dr. asked to have Duphaston for two weeks and then to go for a usg again. What could be the reason for repeated blighted ovum?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
A blighted ovum occurs when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus but doesn't develop into an embryo.
It is most common cause of miscarriage in early pregnancy.
Causes are: chromosomal problem, genetic mutation, poor quality of egg or sperm.
It can not be prevented once occur.
Progesterone pill sometime support early pregnancy and promote growth of baby. If not responds then D & C or misoprostol will used.
I would suggest to for genetic test and detailed investigation by consulting fetal medicine specialist.
Hope this may help you

Contact further if follow up needed
