What Causes Recurring Abdominal Pain With Discomfort?

I have occasional short, sharp pain along with ongoing discomfort and a little blotting feeling, in the center of my abdomen just below my rib cage. The symptom checker listed several things but I wondered if it could be gallstones? I had an episode of diarrhea a couple of days ago that did not involve any cramping or pain and have sort of had this problem since. My appetite is fine and no nausea or vomiting. I may have eaten some old, deli cut lunch meat that gave me the diarrhea but my wife ate it too and was okay. I know it could have (not) effected her differently. Please advise.

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. The symptoms which you have mentioned: [bloating/diarrhea/cramps] could be because of Irritable Bowel Syndrome [IBS] but other related conditions like heart burn/acid reflux, gastritis should also be excluded as such check with a Gastroenterologist for necessary examination and investigation [if any]

2. One should rule out the possibilities like:
. Indigestion [dyspepsia], liver disorder [hepatitis], gallbladder disorder [cholecystitis], pancreatitis, giardiasis, inflammatory bowel disease

3. The physical examination done by your attending physician will focus particularly on the abdomen to identify any tender areas, masses, or enlarged organs and initially urinanalysis, sonography, complete blood cell count, and blood test to evaluate functioning of liver and pancreas are done and other tests will depend upon the results of the history and physical examination [i.e. they are ordered only if people have abnormal test results, warning signs, or symptoms of a specific disorder].
