What Causes Recurring Abdominal Pain Post Intake Of Augmentin?

I just finished a 10-day course of Augmentin, and started having pains in my stomach yesterday. It was mild at first... I felt like my stomach was growling, but food didn t help. The ache has turned into a pain that comes and goes every couple minutes. Sometimes in my stomach, sometimes in my chest, and I can feel it through to my back. It has been going on for about 48 hours now, and keep me from sleeping. I have taken OTC gas pills and antacids, thinking it might be digestive problems caused by the antibiotic, but they didn t do more than take the edge off. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

From your history, it seems you have developed gastritis to Augmentin. Sometimes, the drug itself can cause cramps due to increased peristalsis. You may try OTC antacids like nexium and sucralfate syrup along with a probiotic. If not relieved, you may consult your GP.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vaddadi Suresh
