What Causes Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection?

ive had urinary track infections before and my urine smelled funny and i had the painful burning an frequency. sometimes even pelvic fever as one doctor told me. ive had countless infections in the last 10 years i just turned 26. i had my daughter at 23 and have only had a few infections since, i also had an anyurism and then a stroke in feburary. the infection ive had lately has been off and on for a couple months just the strong smell and then it goes away but the last couple weeks it hasnt gone away and i get up to go about 5 or 6 times a night. ive had emergency room visits and they take a urine sample and tell me theres no infection. i know i have an infection and i can smell it and now im losing sleep as well. should they be testing else where im afraid there might be something seriously wrong... please help.
