What Causes Recurrent Painless Cold Sores On Lips?

So I am just back from skiing. 6 days. I didnt really put sun protection on except once, using a friends chapstick. Anyway, this Monday I noticed a blister on my lip, more on the inside. So I went to a local dermotologist, who lanced it and sent in a sample (results not back yet). She said 50/50 cold sore. Anyway, since then the one she lanced (3 days later) is basically gone. It never scabbed or anything. Then another blister popped up on tuesday (1 day later) near it. That has now popped on its own. Looks like it will be mostly gone by tomorrow, if not the next day. Never really had much pain. Maybe if I tongue it alot it get aggravated. But no scab, no pain to mention. And from blister to healed looks to be about 4 days. Never had a cold sore before. But seems to me that this could easily be sunburned lips. My lips were extremely dry, probably decently burnt, and certainly wind burnt. Split down the middle a little a few days back from being dry. Question is, do cold sores pop up separately like that, heal that quickly without pain and without scabbing?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain occurrence of bump on the lip that got resolved within 3 to 4 days while popping of another bump does not need to be necessarily be a cold sore caused by Herpes simplex virus..
It is most commonly in the form of clusters of fluid filled bumps but a single bump can occur..
It can however be due to causes like bacterial infection due to sharing chapstick while can also be due to sun blisters, allergies etc..
I would suggest you to wait for the report of the investigation as it will help in confirmation of the cause..
In case of viral infection antiviral oral and topical medications like Acyclovir, Valacyclovir an help..
In case of bacterial infection antibiotic ointment can be advised..
In case of allergies anti allergics can help..
As of now you should apply a thick coat of antibiotics over the lips to relieve dryness as well as it locks moisture..
You can also do cool compresses over the lips..
Limit sun exposure..
rink plenty of water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
