What Causes Recurrent Itching On The Arms When Diagnosed With Hives?
Hi, I was bitten on the arm while asleep about 3 years ago, since then I ve had recurrent intense itching, hives, white lumps and recurrent bruises in that area. I now have an aching spot on my arm where the original bite was. What can I do about this?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
This is pretty unusual to have such long allergic reaction but sometimes long-term (chronic) hives may happen after trigger effect such as insect bite.
It would be good to do skin biopsy of this area first to see the exact type of hives. Also try a nonprescription medicine for the relief of itching, redness, and swelling such as Benadryl or Hydrocortisone 1% cream.
It is important not to scratch or manipulate the wound to prevent infection. You may cover the wound with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a nonstick bandage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
