What Causes Recurrent Diverticulitis While On Champix?

Hello Doctor. I am a 70 year old woman from rural Australia, still employed as a social worker in mental health. HAVE BEEN SMOKING since i was 57; suffer from diverticultis and depression. Recently commenced champix After 1 week, stopped smoking, but have experienced a bad diverticulitis attack, and am on the usual antibiotics; very low in energy. Have seen local doctors, am not responding all that well to antibiotics; have stopped champion last 2 days to see if I can feel better. Have had 2 hospitalisations in the past for diverticulitis. IS THERE ANY EVIDENCE OF CHAMPIX BEING LINKED WITH DIVERTICULITIS?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Champix can cause abdominal symptoms such as constipation, vomiting , change in appetite, indigestion but it is not specifically linked diverticulitis.

Diverticulitis is common as persons age. A high fiber , high fluid diet would be important for control and reducing complications.

I hope this helps
