What Causes Recurrence Of Umbilicus Infections After A Appendectomy?

I am 18, and ever since I have had an appendectomy in July of 2007, I have had repeated umbillicus infections. 2-4 times per year, I have had pain on the right side of my belly button, and I have been perscribed Bactrim every time. It eventually goes away with the antibiotics, but always comes back. Any ideas to help?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
If the appendectomy was done laparoscopically, it is possible that there is a small foreign body.
It is better to get the site explored surgically and and cleaned well FB removed if it is there .
This will solve your problem permanently.

Even though the surgery would have been by an open approach, the possibility is of umbilical granuloma and the treatment is necessarily the same.
