What Causes Rectal Bleeding?

Hello,
I am a female age 52 with Rectal bleeding. Blood is on the toilet tissue and not in the stool. About 4 months now. Has happened in years past, but has always stopped when I altered my diet. It sounds as if something is torn. I thought it might be an anal fissure. I cannot tell the difference if I have to pass gas or actually use the bathroom.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to hemorrhoids or anal fissure. A physical examination is needed to confirm the cause. Meanwhile you can use hemorrhoid cream for local relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
